A BIT ABOUT ME

Working as an Engineer and particularly as a Railway Engineer, I have found that my job is my passion. Always looking for an improvement, I have had a continuous training and preparing to do a better job.

ABOUT ME

My name is Alejandro López Nadal, and I was born in Valencia (Spain) but I have grew up mainly in Spain, but not only. In fact, I am still growing and learning what those around me want to teach me. I have visited quite a few countries and I try to travel more and see other places in the world. I have a tab on this page where I show some of the places where  I've been.

I studied a 5-year career, Industrial Engineering, where I learned not only the subjects they teach you, but also see beyond. But more important was and is my family, I want to thank my parents for everything they have helped me and pushed me to study more and better, without them I would never have been able to finish my degree and work now in what I like the most.

Starting:

While I was studying I worked in two companies, in one of them I worked in an electronics repair chain (IS2, now POAS, in Madrid). Then, during my last years of the degree, I worked in Siemens, as assistant to the project manager in a turnkey project that consisted of the construction of a Combined Cycle power generation plant (1,400 MW)

Hard beginnings:

I am an intense person, willing to work, with a good attitude to work in a team or alone. As an example, during my first job after graduation, I worked as a programmer and functional with Navision (ERP similar to SAP), programming is generally a lonely job, but I turned out to have good skills and within a few weeks I found myself leading small projects (and some not so small). The experience was very good but very complicated due to the long working hours and the high stress , but it prepared me for the following years and currently I have not worked as demanding as in those years.

Railway Environment:

Shortly after becoming a programmer, I switched to another type of job, something more tangible, thus beginning my stage at Albatros SI, where I spent almost 5 years with part of a large group. We were a very heterogeneous team, but the good atmosphere, the best boss and some good colleagues resulted in well-finished and satisfactory projects . Mainly I maintained and installed a lot of different equipment and systems, although I also started to excel in equipment management and as a railway expert. This was my first contact with the world of trains, its complexity and variety made me fall in love with it.

Shortly before Albatros SI closed (2013) due to the economic crisis, in 2012 I moved to Colway Industrial (CWI) , without leaving the exciting railway world, they hired me as Project Manager (one of €1.6M and another of €2.2M) . Little by little I increased my responsibilities with other issues, such as Sales, starting a small R&D department or preparing the workshop in Madrid, not to forget the technical assistance in Cairo. Colway was a good company to grow up in, I had great colleagues, interesting projects and very strong financial backing.

Brief railway pause:

After the closure of the projects in Colway, I decided to change the environment a bit, not forgetting the railway field as I was responsible for the accounts of the railway HVAC&R manufacturers, I focused on sales as a Technical Sales Manager at Sanhua International Europe . It is a job that I quite liked and in which I had great milestones. Not counting plane or train trips, I traveled more than 60,000km in a year and a half , hundreds of appointments with distributors and potential clients and a record of 14 visits in one day . Regarding my objectives, the first year I had a good result and that gave rise to doubling them, a fact that did not prevent me from having 75% billed in August and more than 90% planned.  until the end of the year. However, that August they made me an offer that was difficult to refuse.

Back to the railway world:

The Sogeti High Tech (SHT) consultancy, currently Capgemini, called me to offer me a very interesting position, the management of a large team to collaborate with the client in the design of the electrical part of a Very High Speed Train . Sogeti shared the load of design with the client, making us responsible for more than 50% of the engineering, divided into different areas, Interior Design, Mechanics, Structures, Calculation, Systems and Electricity. I came to direct more than 14 designers (>Engineering 20kh), in three different locations and managing both the 3D and 2D design (plans) as well as the realization of electrical diagrams .

During the completion of all the deliverables, another company called me and since Sogeti could not offer me new projects, I decided to change. It was a difficult step, because Sogeti was discovered as a good and solid company,  with good colleagues to work with, both my team and my direct manager. Always closing any pending point and thanking the enormous opportunity lived.

Satys (formerly Kelox) is a company that designs Galleys and Cafeterias for trains, during the years I was there I directed the company's Systems department . My work ranged from the collaboration of offers to the design of systems (refrigeration, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic). Likewise, Satys offers customized designs, so that its final products can be very different from each other, from a small refrigerator for the driver's cabin, to the design of the complete cafeteria, including refrigerators and freezers.

During my stay at Satys I successfully integrated various technologies in order to reduce, improve efficiency, reduce weight and use very low GWP refrigerant gases. These new technologies were:

  • Integration of Microchannel condensers

  • Implementation of very low GWP gases

    • R1234yf, for inside quipments

    • R290, for outside equipments

  • Integration of electronic expansion valves

  • Last but not least, design of railway refrigeration equipment with secondary fluid (the only ones in the railway sector)

Sales again:

Finished a stage, Sanhua International Europe  recruited me again, returning to my old job as Technical Sales Manager. During the last years, Sanhua has grown enormously and currently needs 3 commercials for the Iberia area, so currently, in addition to taking care of Distribution, as I did before, now I will take care of an area of OEMs in particular, in this case, the manufacturers of heat pumps and aerothermal energy, a very buoyant sector when it goes hand in hand with photovoltaic installations, given the prices of electricity and gas.

Continuous training:

Even before finishing my degree, I was already aware that my training would never end. Part of that conviction was instilled in me by my parents and of course by observing the harsh labor market. Since I handed in my Final Year Project until today, I haven't stopped studying in one way or another. Constantly investing a good part of my time and budget in small courses or other more complex ones. This way I can not only get better at my job, but also keep fit.

My professional profile is the one of a very versatile engineer, mainly focused on two big areas, a wide and strong engineer technical branch and also a good Project Management and/or Teamleader.

About the technical area, I've a very good foundation, result of my complete and high participation on the development of every project I have participated, in projects of Electronic, Electricity, System Integration and HVAC&R. I accumulate over 9 years developing and managing design projects, assembling, commissioning, maintenance,... of on board railway systems and/or equipment.
